Piaget

Piaget history

In 1874, the Swiss luxury watchmaker and jeweler, Piaget, was founded by Georges Piaget. It was firstly situated in the village of La Côte-aux-Fées, starting as a manufacturer of watch movements but it had its first own line of watch production in the 20th century. It was then dedicated to pocket watch making as well as crafting clock movements of high precision. In 1911, his son, Timothée Piaget, took over the company and since then, it has been dedicated to wristwatches making. Piaget has become a registered trademark under the guidance of Gérald and Valentin Piaget, the founder’s grandsons, in 1943 and since then, it has been creating its own designs.

In 1957, Piaget created the first ultra-thin, of 2 mm, hand-wound mechanical watch movement, the Calibre 9P, while in 1960, it created the world’s thinnest automatic movement, the Calibre12P, with the thickness of 2.3 mm. Moreover, in 2014, Piaget launched the world’s thinnest hand-wound mechanical watch, the Altiplano 900P, of 3.65 millimeters, around 1/8 of an inch.

Piaget’s first watches with dials in precious stones were created in 1964. After that was the creation of the cuff watch. In 1988, it became a part of the Swiss Richemont group and in 2002, it announced the creation of the Calibre 600P, the first Piaget’s tourbillon movement. It’s the world’s thinnest tourbillon with 3.5 mm thickness. Piaget also created coin watches, cufflink watches, ring watches, and brooch watches.
